There is a need to attract and retain Millennials in the workforce as the recession is over and jobs are picking up. 'Baby boomers' refuse to retire while younger workers are increasingly being hired. This article examines the Millennial generation and what will keep them motivated to work in current organizations. The top factors for retention were: modularity, flexibility, opportunities for volunteer work, progressive policies in the workplace and intergenerational mentoring. The article also examines generational values in the workplace and how to adapt an organization to meet the needs of each generation.
Millennials in the Workplace: A Communication Perspective on Millennials' Organizational Relationships and Performance

Millennials have distinct characteristics that many other generations find hard to accept in the workplace. This article uses popular press, popular literature, and empirical studies to decipher stereotypes and determine what characteristics are true. Mostly focused on communication and relations in the workplace, the article goes over Millennials' desires for communication, their expectations, how they use team relationships, their knowledge of IT, and their understanding of diversity. This article voices most of the concerns that managers of older generations tend to have toward Millennials, but it also dispels these myths and shines a light on how the stereotypes are actually useful for the workplace.
